Summer is not only a time for long, warm days or playing outside and enjoying the sunshine. We also celebrate all manner of occasions, from birthdays and national holidays to moms, dads, and graduations during summer months. Of all the flowers to represent the versatility of summer, the sunflower is the most obvious choice. Historically, these hearty plants were one of the first crops planted in North America. Harvested for their seeds, Native American tribes in the Southwest United States and Mexico discovered ways to grind the seeds into flour, while other parts of the plant were used for medicine or to dye clothing. Bice's Florist is feeling inspired by the season - especially its imagery of bare branches laden with snow. While we don't really get to enjoy the prettiest of precipitations here in Fort Worth, we can bring its palette into our home in the form of flowers.
